Ron Fory entered the world of Accounting after a 21 year career in the US Army. He began at a not-for-profit enterprise as Business Manager, moved into financial services, and was a manufacturing Division Controller for ten years before becoming a Corporate Controller for a $100 million distribution company.

His education includes a BA in Political Science, and a MA in Professional Accounting from UTA. His professional certifications include CPA, CMA, CFE and CFM.

Ron resides in Weatherford with his devoted and very tolerant wife Karen. He is a member of Toastmasters, is currently Regional VP and member of Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) Global Board of Directors, is past president of the Texas Council of the IMA, a Lecturer at the University of North Texas at Dallas and President of Fory Group LLC. IMA’s Managerial Costing Initiative: An Update by Charles R. “Chuck” Thomas, Jr., PhD, CMA, CPA (Director, Financial Analysis at Southwest Airlines, member of IMA Managerial Costing Conceptual Framework Task Force)

Objective – Provide the background, benefits, and insights on the Conceptual Framework for Managerial Costing currently being developed by IMA.

 

Chuck Thomas  is a practicing accountant, coach, and teacher.

A veteran practitioner, Chuck has written articles and delivered speeches about a wide range of accounting and management topics, including, accounting fraud, supply chain management, activity-based costing, capacity cost management, and performance measurement.

In 2010, Chuck partnered with Larry White, Doug Clinton, Anton van der Merwe, Gary Cokins, Ken Templin, and Jim Huntzinger presenting the case for why a conceptual framework for Managerial Costing will improve business practices.

Chuck currently leads Southwest Airlines’ Operations Modeling & Research Team. This Team supports all areas of Southwest’s operations by providing independent research and guidance. Currently, his Team is collaborating on the design and development of a “brain” for Southwest’s “Nervous System” which serves to provide planning capabilities along with advance and real-time decision-making support for Southwest’s operations.

Chuck became a certified public accountant (CPA) in 1983, a certified management accountant (CMA) in 2011 and is a past president of the Mid-Cities Association of CPAs. In 1996, The University of Texas at Arlington conferred a PhD upon Chuck following his study of accounting, finance, and research.

Chuck teaches managerial accounting in Baylor University’s Executive MBA Program (Hankamer School of Business).

 

 

An Update of COSO’s Internal Control–Integrated Framework by William D. “Bill” Schneider, CPA, CGMA (Director of Accounting at AT&T, member of AICPA Board of Directors, member of COSO Internal Control Integrated Framework Advisory Committee)

Objective – Provide an understanding of the existing COSO Internal Control-Integrated Framework and proposed enhancements to address the changing business environment.

 

William “Bill” Schneider, CPA, CGMA is Director of Accounting at AT&T and a member of the AICPA Board of Directors. Bill’s responsibilities at AT&T include Corporate Accounting Policy, Executive Compensation Accounting and Benefits Finance Support.

Bill is a member of the Georgia Society of CPAs (GSCPA) and Texas Society of CPAs (TSCPA). He served as President of the GSCPA in 2006-2007 and was recently recognized by the GSCPA as its 2011 Outstanding Member in Industry.

Bill has served on the AICPA Council since 2006, currently serves on the COSO Internal Control Integrated Framework Advisory Committee and will begin serving a three year term on the International Federation of Accountants Professional Accountants in Business committee in 2012.

Bill graduated from the University of Georgia in 1988 with two degrees, a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Accountancy.

 

 

Special Appearance by John C. Macaulay, CMA (IMA Chair Elect)

 

John C. Macaulay, CMA is Chair-Elect for the 2011-2012 fiscal year. He also serves as chair of IMA’s Planning and Development Committee and chair of the Nominating Committee.

Mr. Macaulay has extensive senior-level management experience in finance, accounting, directorship, controllership, strategic planning, operations analysis, international acquisitions and joint ventures, organizational and information systems development. He has demonstrated success in diverse environments for major industrial and consumer products manufacturers and non-profits. He has traveled to all 50 U.S. states and to 42 countries on five continents.

A member of IMA for 39 years, Mr. Macaulay passed the first Certified Management Accountant (CMA) examination in 1972. He has served on the IMA Global Board of Directors at various times for a total of 14 years. He is an active past president of the Texas Council and the Dallas-Fort Worth Chapter.

In 2010 Mr. Macaulay retired as vice president, chief financial officer and controller from Royal Street Communications. Other positions include vice chairman, chair audit committee, and director of MDI, Inc., a NASDAQ company where he began implementation of Sarbanes-Oxley requirements. At Paging Network, Inc. he assisted the finance function through bankruptcy and a merger transition. He also served two non-profit organizations as executive vice president and CFO/consultant for Teen Mania Ministries and as a member of My Executive Team.

Mr. Macaulay also served as senior vice president-finance and chief financial officer of Pillowtex, Inc.; vice president and controller of Overhead Door Company; and vice president and controller for the first-year startup of Global Industrial Technologies, a major NYSE industrial company divested from Dresser Industries.

Mr. Macaulay spent 18 years with Fortune 500 Dresser Industries, Dallas, Texas with three corporate transfers and back to Dallas Corporate Headquarters as Director of Operations and Planning where he traveled worldwide and led financial activities during formation of international and domestic joint ventures and acquisitions totaling $3.5 billion.

In 1972 Mr. Macaulay received his MBA with Distinction from the Kellogg School at Northwestern University. He earned his B.A. in Biology and Chemistry at St. Olaf College in 1965. He attended Naval Officer Candidates School where he graduated in the top tenth of the his class and went on to be a Guided Missile Officer on two destroyers, one of which he commissioned.

Mr. Macaulay and his wife, Susan, have been married for 42 years and live in Dallas. They are the parents of two sons and a daughter-in-law.

 

 

UNT Dallas' Role in Economic Development by John M. Beehler, PhD, CPA (Provost and Vice President for Academic Excellence and Student Success, University of North Texas at Dallas)

Objective – The University of North Texas at Dallas is located in an area just south of downtown Dallas. This presentation will provide insights on the economic development potential that the University of North Texas at Dallas provides for the Dallas Fort Worth Area, and particularly South Dallas.

 

Dr. John M. Beehler  is the founding Provost and Vice President for Academic Excellence and Student Success at the University of North Texas at Dallas where he oversees all aspects of both academic and student affairs. His academic career includes serving in a wide range of leadership positions over the past 17 years: Chair/President of Faculty Senate, Department Chair, Associate Dean, Dean, Associate Provost and Provost. Dr. Beehler served as the Associate Provost for Economic Initiatives and the Dean of the Haile/US Bank College of Business at Northern Kentucky University where he held the Ralph V. Haile, Jr. Dean Leadership Chair in Business. He also served as Dean of the Barton School of Business at Wichita State University as well as Chair/President of the Faculty Senate, Department Chair, and Associate Dean at the University of Texas at Arlington.

Dr. Beehler earned his B.S. from Penn State University with Highest Distinction in the Accounting Honors Program. He earned his MBA in Finance and Taxation and his Ph.D. in Accounting and Taxation with a minor in Law from Indiana University. Dr. Beehler is a graduate of the Harvard Institutes of Higher Education Management Development Program and is currently participating in the American Academic Leadership Institute’s Executive Leadership Academy over the next year. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a qualified mediator. While practicing in public accounting, Dr. Beehler had significant experience as a college and university accounting/auditing specialist for an international CPA firm. As a Professor of Accounting, he has published widely in academic and professional journals and has received various teaching awards over his academic career.

Dr. Beehler’s internal experience includes managing all aspects of academic affairs and leading key institutional effectiveness activities including strategic planning, budgeting and accountability, assessment, and international, national, regional and specialized accreditations. He also is experienced in student affairs with oversight of student life, college readiness, enrollment management, registrar and financial aid. Dr. Beehler approaches student affairs with a strong commitment to student success focused on active student learning, academic support and advising, career preparation, internships/cooperative education, and student recruitment, retention and graduation initiatives. He believes in the development of the student both as a professional and an ethical, global citizen. He is committed to faculty governance, cross-campus interdisciplinary collaborations, enhanced use of technology in learning, and faculty, staff and student development. Dr. Beehler believes that universities should be publically engaged as key partners with the communities they serve. He also believes that universities should be transparent and accountable for performance while being learning organizations committed to continuous quality improvement. Dr. Beehler has experience with intercollegiate athletics in a variety of capacities including serving as a key member of the search committee for an athletic director for an NCAA program.

Dr. Beehler and his wife Pamela have been married for 34 years. They have one daughter who graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and serves as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Dr. Beehler enjoys sports (especially golf, tennis, running and cycling) as well as traveling and reading.

 

 

America's Energy Future by Marc Hildenbrand (President and CEO of the March Group, a firm specializing in gas and oil business development)

Marc Hildenbrand  has led organizations with 3,000 plus team members and managed capital projects exceeding $800 million in value. He previously worked for Hillwood – a privately held real estate and energy development company owned by Ross Perot Jr. At Hillwood he helped develop the 18,000 acre Alliance, Texas project, served as Chief of Staff reporting directly to Ross, and was Vice President for planning and infrastructure for domestic energy operations.

Prior to entering the private sector, Marc served 24 years as an Army officer where he led soldiers and cared for families from platoon to brigade level. In 2003, Marc’s brigade was part of the historic 3rd Infantry Division attack to Baghdad, and his soldiers earned the Presidential Unit Citation for bravery. Marc has also led operational planning for a 20,000 person organization, served as the Senior Military Aide to the Secretary of the Army (CEO, the Army), and was executive officer to three Commanding Generals of the Army Corps of Engineers (CEO, the Corps of Engineers).

Marc graduated from West Point in 1979. He holds a Master of Science in civil engineering from Arizona State University and a Master of Military History from the Army Command and General Staff College.

Marc has a strong interest in national security affairs. He is past chairman of the North Texas Army Advisory Board, past board of director member of the Dallas Fort Worth World Affairs Council, member of the Texas 26th Congressional District Service Academy Selection Board, and a member of Business Executives for National Security.

Marc and his wife Christina have been married for 30 years and make their home in Denton, Texas. Their daughter Katie teaches school and she and her husband Clay live in North Texas. Their son Daniel and his wife Ali live in Pearl Harbor where Dan is an officer assigned to a destroyer recently returned from 8 months in the Persian Gulf. Marc and Tina have two beautiful granddaughters Linnea and Lyla.

Do Good & Make Money: The Sustainability Imperative for Management Accountants by Tom Pryor (Director of the SBDC for Enterprise Excellence and a growth Coach for TMAC)

Objective – Define and demonstrate how national and local companies are successfully using the Triple Bottom-Line of Profit, Planet & People. Green money and a green planet are priorities for a large, growing segment of consumers and members of the supply chain.

 

Tom Pryor is Director of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) for Enterprise Excellence and a growth coach for the Texas Manufacturing Assistance Center (TMAC), both business outreaches of UTA.

Prior to joining the SBDC, Tom founded and led a successful software, training and consulting business for 18 years. During the 1980’s Tom served as director of the global research project that developed the principles of Activity Based Cost Management. He has served in financial management at General Motors, Johnson & Johnson and Motorola.

His 15 minutes of fame came in a June 1988 Business Week magazine cover story titled That Old Time Accounting isn’t Good Enough Anymore. He has authored five books, written hundreds of articles and lectures at the University of Texas at Arlington.

Tom has been happily married for 43 years and is DEBT FREE, both consistent with his favorite proverb . . . Success is NOT logical.
